You’ll use less fabric softener if you separate your cottons and synthetics. Synthetics are what typically cause static, so you can hang dry those. Or use Charlie’s Soap. And you won’t need fabric softener at all. Clothes feel so soft and have such a lovely fresh laundry scent.
