Create an emergency kit

October 29, 2016

Create an emergency kit to prepare for adverse weather that can cause situations such as power outages or a vehicle breakdown.

If you already have one, check it over to make sure you have everything you might need in the case of an emergency.

Assemble kits for your home and vehicles. Water/moisture proof containers work well.

For car: Include item such as extra blankets or clothing (flannel, hats, mittens), a first-aid kit, basic tools, flashlight, flares, jumper cables, nonperishable food such as energy bars, water, ice scrapers to name a few.

For home: Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (you can have a fire drill and discuss emergency safety plans, too), have spare batteries, candles, flashlights, food and water, crank radio, first-aid kit, basic tools, personal-hygiene items, prescriptions, entertainment, clothing and bedding, whistles, a manual can opener and a utility knife, matches/lighter, baby wipes, garbage bags, change and a fire extinguisher. Solar landscape lights or glow sticks can work well as nightlights, too.

What else would you include?
