Aristocrat of Frostings. Now so easy to make.
Lord Baltimore Frosting
2 egg whites
3/4 cup Karo Syrup, Red Label
1/4 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 cup chopped maraschino or candied cherries
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup chopped raisins
Combine egg whites, Karo syrup, sugar and salt in top of double boiler. Place over rapidly boiling water and cook, beating constantly with rotary beater until frosting stands in peaks. Remove from heat. Add flavoring, beating in well. Cool slightly.
For filling: Place 1/3 of the frosting in a small bowl and add remaining ingredients; mix well. Spread this mixture between two 8 or 9-inch layers white cake. (Use packaged white cake mix or your favorite recipe.) Spread top and sides of cake with the plain frosting. If desired, garnish top with circle of chopped fruits and nuts.
Sea Foam frosting:
Prepare frosting as directed above. Substitute Karo Syrup, Blue label for Karo Syrup Red Label, and brown sugar for white sugar. Omit fruit, use nuts for garnishing. Spread frosting between two 8 or 9-inch layers chocolate cake. (Use packaged chocolate cake mix or your favorite recipe.) Use remaining frosting for top and sides of cake.
