Serve Yourself Cake Sundaes

Ice Bowl (below)

1 1/2 quarts ice cream (1 pint each chocolate, cherry and coffee or other favorites)
1 package of our dark chocolate fudge or devils food cake mix
Ice cream toppings

Make Ice Bowl. Scoop ice cream into balls; place on tray lined with wax paper. Freeze. Bake cake mix in baking pan, 13x9x2 inches, as directed on package.

If you wish, sift confectioners’ sugar over cake; cut cake into squares. Place ice cream balls in Ice Bowl and serve with cake and ice cream. Toppings such as flaked coconut, walnuts in syrup, butterscotch, fudge, pineapple and marshmallow.

Ice Bowl

Place 1 1/2 quart metal bowl in 3 1/2-quart metal bowl. Holding small bowl down, pour water into large bowl until water between bowls is about 1 inch wide. Fill small bowl with enough water to hold it down. Hold edges of bowl in place with 2-4 strips masking tape. Freeze at least 12 hours.

To unmold, run small amount hot water into small bowl until it can be lifted out. Lower large bowl into hot water for a moment; remove bowl from ice. Place ice bowl on small plate; return to freezer until serving time. -The Betty Crocker Recipe Card Library, 1971
