How to get rid of static?

I live in the desert, and during the summer months, my family and I experience a great deal of static electricity. It is in our clothes, the sofa, the blankets, and even my hair. The children and I are allergic to bounce dryer sheets and I find the smell of static guard offensive. I have tried many things with no relief. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for your time.
